Switching Perspectives

With the success of the first two games, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Insomniac strove to create a bold and truly cinematic experience with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. They seamlessly incorporated Miles and Peter’s storylines and were able to develop both characters individually and as a team. This focus on two main Spider-Men allowed Insomniac to create an expansive menu that combined skill sets, costume selection (pictured left), and bridged the gap between Peter’s and Mile’s patrol areas. While the menu is organized well and easy to navigate, the larger your screen is the more you can process at once. On a gaming monitor or TV screen, you may have to focus in on what you’re upgrading or selecting, but with the enhanced details of the X3100i and a large screen or wall to project on, you’ll be able to upgrade both Spider-Man to the max!

The game includes quests that can be completed as either character, ones specific to Miles Morales, and ones specific to Peter Parker. The individual quests are usually personal matters or tasks that require their unique abilities. For the quests that can be completed by either, however, depending on who you play changes what is said during these times and occasionally how something happens. Skill points earned from any quest can be applied to the tech or skills of either Spider-Men, and new suits unlock for both as you play. As you upgrade suits for both Spider-Men, you’ll want to be able to see every fine detail of the suits designs in action. From the darkest reds to the brightest whites, every single Spider-Man suit and their color variants are as vibrant as can be.

Enter the Venomverse

Venom, the main villain of the game, does not come as an easy challenge and as the story continues, you’ll have to adapt your fighting strategies to defeat his army of mindless drones. Miles has an advantage with his electric-based abilities, but Peter has to rely on his skills and technology up until he acquires the Anti-Venom symbiote. Regardless of who you’re playing as and what skills you’re utilizing, the symbiotes pose a strong challenge, especially in underground or darker areas. To have the best advantage during these battles, you’ll need the best, detailed visuals and crisp colors a gaming projector can provide. The X3100i, with 4K HDR 4LED color volume, is ready to aid you in these battles without missing a single detail.

Miles Morales has several unique abilities that Peter does not have, including invisibility (or camouflage) and electric shock. His electric shock abilities can stun, damage, or destroy a symbiote drone during battles (pictured left) and comes in handy when helping Peter with his symbiote struggles. Depending on the type of attack you choose, you’ll want to be able to see the vivid yellow or blues from his blasts, the distortion of the area around him caused by his Spider-Sense, and the withdraw of the symbiote from its innocent host. With meticulously enhanced contrast and true-to-life colors, you’ll experience total immersion as you battle the symbiote hoards on the X3100i.

Peter Parker does not have this advantage over the symbiotes, but he has developed his fighting skills better than Miles and does end up with an advantage towards the end: Anti-Venom (pictured right). All of the abilities you maxed out while having the Venom suit don’t go to waste, they transfer to the Anti-Venom suit and are utilized to defeat both the drones and Venom himself. In order to react quickly and counter-attack, you’ll rely on the ability to see Peter’s Spider-Sense go off and visualize where the attacks are coming from. Spotting these details is crucial for a successful battle and they’re enhanced by vivid colors from a BenQ X-Series gaming projector.

Each symbiote drone is a different color, based on the spawns of Venom in the comics. There is pink/purple (Agony), green (Lasher), yellow (Phage/Scream), and silver (Riot). They also have slightly different attacks that are based on the key attributes each symbiote usually has. Every color accent on the symbiotes comes to life with the X3100i and comic book fans will appreciate the intricate details put into the designs thanks to the projector's enhanced visual capabilities.

Spotting the Details

There are multiple opportunities for full exploration of New York and several Marvel Comics easter eggs! As you swing through the city and complete various quests, you’ll come across the some well-known locations featured in the comics, shows, and films. Each location has some unique, intricate details about it that you need the vivid colors provided by a gaming projector to see. For example, the Sanctum Sanctorum’s well-known circular window gradually changes colors as you look at it, with varying hues of purple, yellow, blue, red, and green. On a monitor or TV, you might miss this detail due to the size limitations of the screens. However, on a BenQ gaming projector with projection size options as big as 200”, you’ll clearly see this unique detail.

Other details, such as Spider-Sense, may not be as noticeable on smaller screens. In fights, the Spider-Sense is often represented with white lines radiating around their heads, but in other situations, it distorts the world around them with wave-like patterns (pictured left). This may look like a glitch or lag on some screens, but on the X3100i it adds depth to this classic Spider-Man trait that warns him of danger.

Looking over the New York landscape for the highest building in the map (pictured right), you can deeply appreciate the details and design that went into the world-building of this game. The city lights up at night and shines bright during the day. Even during thunderstorms, the liveliness of New York doesn’t waver as you swing through the city and battle Kraven. With awe-inspiring realism, the city comes to life on the X3100i and it’s a one-of-a-kind experience for gamers.

As you fight Kraven, Venom, and the other Spider-Man villains featured throughout the game, you’ll notice the enhanced details of each character and feel as though you’re fighting these battles yourself.
